All entries will be first on a waiting list and have to be attended by the event manager. The event manager manually moves these entries to the list of official entries after they are approved and / or after paying the entry fee. If you have any questions please contact the event manager.

New Zealand National Karate Championships 2019.

We have the honour of inviting you to the National Karate Championships Tournament for 2019. This competition is New Zealand’s Premier Karate Event and will be held in Auckland this year. Participation in the Nationals is open to all KNZ registered clubs.

WHEN:                 Saturday 13th& Sunday 14thJuly 2019

WHERE:              Auckland Netball Centre 

7 Allison Ferguson Drive, Stonefields, Auckland

Competition commences at midday Sat 13th 

Weigh in and registration 9am-11.30am (doors open @ 8am)

There is an onsite cafe will be operating all day & there is plenty of onsite car parking available.

This will be  held at the same venue as the National competition on Monday 15th July and Tuesday 16th July. Train with National team members under the guidance of the National Coaches. Saturday:

8.00 am – Doors Open

8.30 am – Referee, coaches, table staff and marshals training.

9.00am to 11.30AM - ATHLETE REGISTRATION AND WEIGH IN

11.30-12.00 pm Lunch Break

12.00pm – Senior competition Starts.

14Years – Seniors Kata Events &Kumite Events

7.00pm Estimated Finish Time



 

Sunday:

8.00 am – Warm up time 

8.30 am – Team Kata

From 8.30 am - 5.00pm (Estimated Finish Time)

13 Years and under - kata and kumite events

12.30 pm Lunch Break (estimate)

COMPETITION RULES 

Players cannot enter more than one level at the same tournament

Non-premier events will not be considered by Selectors regarding National Team and Squad selection

During the bow in at the beginning of tournament all players must be in Gi or Tracksuit and must present themselves correctly

Coaches must wear their club tracksuits while coaching.

WKF 2019 rules will apply with following modifications: 

KATA 

The judging of the Kata competition for the competitors 13 and under will follow the old WKF flag system The new electronic WKF kata judging system will beused in the senior competition.


KATA REQUIREMENTS 

Development – The only development divisions for this tournament are for the 6/7 & 8/9 year olds.

Development Kata - are limited to performing only Kihon Kata: Heian 1-5, Pinan 1-5, Gekisai 1-2 and Saifa. Competitors can repeat a kata in each round. 

Intermediate Kata - any approved WKF kata. Repeats are allowed but only in a A,B,C,A,B,C.  format. Ie you must know 3 different kata.

Premier Kata - any approved WKF kata. No Repeats as per WKF rules.

Competitors must announce the name of the kata they will be performing before they start performing the kata. They must also bow inside the competition area before starting and bow after completing the kata. The competitor will be disqualified for failing to do so.

 

KUMITE 

For ages 13 and under, techniques to the head can score but absolutely NO contact to head will be allowed. Any contact (unless by self-endangerment—Mubobi) including skin touch will be penalised. 

Development – The only development divisions for this tournament are for the 6/7 & 8/9 year olds.

WKF points, warning and penalty system will be used for all Kumite Events.
For ages 14 and over the WKF rules will apply.

BOUT DURATION 

6 – 13 yrs 1.5 minutes (Stop Clock),

14-17 yrs 2.0 minutes (as per WKF rules)

18 yrs - veteran Male and female 3.0 min as per WKF Rules.

Veteran & Super Veterans 2.0 minutes

EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS 

All competitors (Kumite and Kata) must wear a clean white Gi in good condition. 

Players in Development or Intermediate level competition may have personal embroidery on their Gi's, and their Belts. Players in premier divisions must follow the WKF rules ie. white karate gi without stripes, piping or personal embroidery".

ALL KUMITE COMPETITORS MUST WEAR Mouth guards
Chest protectors (WKF type)
Red and blue belts and Red and blue hand mitts (matching the belt they are competing in). Red and blue foot protectors which must match the belt colour. 

All Equipment must be KNZ, Oceania or WKF approved

Kumite competitors MAY wear their own
Groin protectors (WKF type)


Head protection—It is suggested (not compulsory) that you wear the WKF face mask or other padded protection deemed acceptable by the tournament director.

 

Divisions

Development – The only development divisions for this tournament are for the 6/7 & 8/9 year olds. You will be split by weight and grade / kyu. Kihon Kata only, repeats allowed.

Intermediate – More experienced in tournaments but not at premier level yet, you cannot be selected for NZ Teams for overseas events if you compete in this division. In the Kata competition there is free choice for kata performed in all rounds but can only repeat in an A, B, C ,A ,B ,C format. (ie. you need to know three kata). You can only be in this division a maximum of 2 years

Premier – Any age, any Kata no repeats, WKF rules apply. Those attempting National teams must be in Premier divisions.

Kumite – All kumite divisions will be split into weight divisions so please make sure your weight is correctly entered otherwise you may be disqualified from that weight division.

Note - A competitor can only enter in one division, but the division can be different for Kata and Kumite.

Team Kata 

9yrs and underOnly one kata required, (can repeat) NO Bunkai required for medal rounds

10-13yrs          Kata can be repeated but not consecutively, Bunkai required for medal rounds

14-16yrs           Kata can be repeated but not consecutively, Bunkai required for medal rounds

16yrs+             Free Kata in all rounds, no repetition permitted, Bunkai required for medal rounds

 

EVENT MANAGEMENT 

Kumite and Flagged Kata events: 

  • With categories with only 3 competitors a ROUND ROBIN DRAW will be made.
  • With categories with 4-8 competitors there will be a repechage for a single third place.
  • With categories with 9 or more competitors, there will be a repechage for two third places.

For Electronically scored Kata eventsthere will be elimination rounds where only the top four or eight (depending on the competitor numbers) competitors go into the next round. This is until the final round where the top 3 from the previous two groups go into the final to give a first, second and 2x third places. Please see 2019 WKF rules for more detail.

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY 

All entry must be completed online and the Entry Fee paid either online or by internet banking no later than Saturday 6thJuly 2019.

NO LATE ENTRIES OR CHANGES TO ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER Saturday 6thJuly 2019.  If there are insufficient entries in a particular division then divisions may be combined or not held 

REFUND POLICY 

Full refund of Entry Fee paid can only be given if a competitor withdraws by 6thJuly, 2019 as the draw will be prepared the next day. Refunds after this date will only be provided if a Medical Certificate is forwarded to the Tournament Organiser. If your event has been cancelled due to lack of numbers and you have not been reallocated to another event then you will be entitled to a refund for that portion of your entry fee. NOTE: It is the player’s responsibility to listen for events being called and to report to the Marshall on time. Failure to do so will result in disqualification.
