We have the honour of inviting you to the Karate Auckland’s Championships Tournament for 2019. This competition is for all levels of Karate Competitors (Development Intermediate and Premier). Our hope is that this format will provide participants a good experience in tournament karate but we also want you have an enjoyable time. Whether this is because that you are successful in this tournament or it is because of your results or improvement or just meeting like-minded karateka and making new friends. We look forward to seeing you there!

Please note that Paper Entries are no longer being accepted. If you are helping with judging, refereeing, marshalling or table duties you must register on sport data to obtain the player discount. We would kindly request that each participating club supply at least two officials either judge/referee/table/marshal. We rely on your help to make the tournament run smoothly.

A more accurate schedule will be published on the sportdata site when competitor numbers are known.
The 12/13 Plus Years are held in the morning so these competitors are then available to help organise the younger competitors and officiate.
WKF 2019 rules with following modifications:
The judging of all Kata competition will follow the old WKF flag system for the afternoon competition. The new WKF kata judging system may beused in the morning competition.
Beginner Kata - are limited to performing only Kihon Kata: Heian 1-5, Pinan 1-5, Gekisai 1-2 and Saifa. Competitors can repeat a kata in each round.
Intermediate Kata - any approved WKF kata including Development Kata. Repeats are allowed but only in a A,B,C,A,B,C. format. Ie you must know 3 different kata.
Premier Kata - any approved WKF kata including Development Kata. No Repeats as per WKF rules.
For ages 5 – 9 years old, Intermediate and Premier Kata competitors are limited to Development Kata except in medal rounds when a Premier Kata may be performed. No repeats are allowed.
Competitors must announce the name of the kata they will be performing before they start performing the kata. They must also bow inside the competition area before starting and bow after completing the kata. The competitor will be disqualified for failing to do so.
For ages 13 and under, techniques to the head can score but absolutely NO contact to head will be allowed. Any contact (unless by self-endangerment—Mubobi) including skin touch will be penalised.
WKF points, warning and penalty system will be used for all Kumite Events. For ages 14 and over the WKF rules will apply.
6 – 13 yrs 1.5 minutes (Stop Clock),
14-17 yrs 2.0 minutes (Stop Clock as per WKF rules)
18 yrs - veteran Male and female 3.0 min as per WKF Rules.
Veteran 2.0 minutes (Stop Clock)
All competitors (Kumite and Kata) must wear a clean white Gi in good condition.
ALL KUMITE COMPETITORS MUST WEAR Mouth guards Chest protectors (WKF type) Red and blue belts and Red and blue hand mitts (matching the belt they are competing in)
Red and blue foot protectors which must match the belt colour EXCEPT in 13 years and under events where these can be red, blue or white AND do not have to match the belt colour. In this age group the equipment does not have to be WKF approved equipment (soccer or hockey shin guards are not acceptable) but they do need to provide padded protection and of an approved karate type.
Kumite competitors MAY wear their own Groin protectors (WKF type) Head protection—It is suggested (not compulsory that you wear the WKF face mask or other padded protection deemed acceptable by the tournament director.
Kumite and Flagged Kata events:
For Electronically scored Kata eventsthere will be elimination rounds where only the top four or eight (depending on the competitor numbers) competitors go into the next round. This is until the final round where the top 3 from the previous two groups go into the final to give a first, second and 2x third places. Please see 2019 WKF rules for more detail.
CONDITIONS OF ENTRY
All entry must be completed online before the 12thof May and the Entry Fee paid either online or by internet banking no later than Tuesday 14th March 2019.
NO LATE ENTRIES OR CHANGES TO ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER Sunday 12thMay 2019. If there are insufficient entries in a particular division then divisions may be combined or not held
Full refund of Entry Fee paid can only be given if a competitor withdraws by 12th May, 2019 as the draw will be prepared the next day. Refunds after this date will only be provided if a Medical Certificate is forwarded to the Tournament Organiser. If your event has been cancelled due to lack of numbers and you have not been reallocated to another event then you will be entitled to a refund for that portion of your entry fee. NOTE: It is the player’s responsibility to listen for events being called and to report to the Marshall on time. Failure to do so will result in disqualification.

The rules for team kata depends on the age group. It will follow the same as the individual kata. ie the 14yrs + will have no repeats and require bunkai for medal rounds. 10-13 can repeat kata but will require bunkai for medal rounds
