We have the honour of inviting you to the National SECONDARY SCHOOLS Karate Championships Tournament for 2019. This competition is New Zealand’s Premier Karate Event FOR SECONDARY SCHOOL LEVEL and will be held in Auckland at the same time as the National Tournament. Participation in the Nationals is open to all KNZ registered Clubs with students attending a Secondary School in New Zealand.We look forward to seeing you there!

Competition commences at 8.30 Sunday 14thJuly 2019 (doors open @ 8am)
There is an onsite cafe will be operating all day & there is plenty of onsite car parking available.

Sunday 14th July:
8.00 am – Warm up time
8.30 am – Team Kata
From 8.30 am - 5.00pm (Estimated Finish Time)
A more accurate schedule will be published on the Sportdata site when competitor numbers are finalized.
Players cannot enter more than one level at the same tournament
Non premier events will not be considered by Selectors regarding National Team and Squad selection
During the bow in at the beginning of tournament all players must be in Gi or Tracksuit and must present themselves correctly
Coaches must wear their club tracksuits while coaching.

WKF 2019 rules will apply with following modifications:
The judging of the Kata competition for the competitors will be split into Secondary year groups. The new electronic WKF kata judging system will beused.
Development – There are NO development divisions in this tournament
Intermediate Kata - any approved WKF kata. Repeats are allowed but only in a A,B,C,A,B,C. format. Ie you must know 3 different kata.
Premier Kata - any approved WKF kata. No Repeats as per WKF rules.
Competitors must announce the name of the kata they will be performing before they start performing the kata. They must also bow inside the competition area before starting and bow after completing the kata. The competitor will be disqualified for failing to do so.
WKF points, warning and penalty system will be used for all Kumite Events. For ages 14 and over the WKF rules will apply.
All division will be split into age groups and where appropriate into weight divisions. It is important to make sure that your weight and height information is entered correctly into sport data. Incorrect entries may lead to disqualification.
Two (2) minute bouts for ALL SECONDARY SCHOOL YEAR LEVELS
All competitors (Kumite and Kata) must wear a clean white Gi in good condition.
Players in Development or Intermediate level competition may have personal embroidery on their Gi's, and their Belts. Players in premier divisions must follow the WKF rules ie. white karate gi without stripes, piping or personal embroidery".
ALL KUMITE COMPETITORS MUST WEAR Mouth guards Chest protectors (WKF type) Red and blue belts and Red and blue hand mitts (matching the belt they are competing in). Red and blue foot protectors which must match the belt colour. All Equipment must be KNZ, Oceania or WKF approved
Kumite competitors MAY wear their own Groin protectors (WKF type)
Head protection—It is suggested (not compulsory) that you wear the WKF face mask or other padded protection deemed acceptable by the tournament director.
Intermediate – More experienced in tournaments but not at premier level yet, you cannot be selected for NZ Teams for overseas events if you compete in this division. Kata free choice in all rounds but can only repeat in a A,B,C,A,B,C fashion ie. you must know at least three different kata. You can only be in this division a maximum of 2 years
Premier – Any age, any Kata no repeats, WKF rules apply. Those attempting National teams must be in Premier divisions.
Kumite – All kumite divisions will be split into weight divisions so please make sure your weight is correctly entered otherwise you may be disqualified from that weight division.
Note - A competitor can only enter in one division. The division can be different for Kata and Kumite.
Kata can be repeated but not consecutively, so you must know at least two kata. Bunkai required for medal rounds
Kumite and Flagged Kata events:
For Electronically scored Kata eventsthere will be elimination rounds where only the top four or eight (depending on the competitor numbers) competitors go into the next round. This is until the final round where the top 3 from the previous two groups go into the final to give a first, second and 2x third places. Please see 2019 WKF rules for more detail.
CONDITIONS OF ENTRY
All entry must be completed online and the Entry Fee paid either online or by internet banking no later than Saturday 6thJuly 2019. NO LATE ENTRIES OR CHANGES TO ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER Saturday 6thJuly 2019. If there are insufficient entries in a particular division then divisions may be combined or not held
Full refund of Entry Fee paid can only be given if a competitor withdraws by 6thJuly, 2019 as the draw will be prepared the next day. Refunds after this date will only be provided if a Medical Certificate is forwarded to the Tournament Organiser. If your event has been cancelled due to lack of numbers and you have not been reallocated to another event then you will be entitled to a refund for that portion of your entry fee. NOTE: It is the player’s responsibility to listen for events being called and to report to the Marshall on time. Failure to do so will result in disqualification.
