NEW ZEALAND NATIONAL SECONDARY SCHOOLS' KARATE CHAMPIONSHIPS 2020
We have the honour of inviting you to the NZ National Secondary Schools' Karate Championships for 2020. This competition is New Zealand’s Premier Karate Event for Secondary School competitors and will be held in Auckland this year. Participation in the National Championships is open to all KNZ registered players who attend a New Zealand Secondary School (from Years 9 to 13, inclusive) and belong to a club/ association that is registered and financial members of Karate New Zealand (KNZ). We look forward to seeing you there!
Dates: Saturday 31st October & Sunday 1st November 2020
Venue: Auckland Netball Centre
7 Allison Ferguson Drive, Stonefields, Auckland
There is plenty of onsite car parking available and an onsite cafe.

When paying entry fees by internet banking please ensure that you note that the payment is for the National Secondary Schools' Championships. We will endeavour to combine entry fees for all three National competitions so this is paid as one club payment.

PLEASE NOTE: Athletes and spectators may be filmed for SKY TV live web streaming and may be used on a highlights package (with options for international viewing as well). So anyone attending the venue on Saturday may be filmed. By attending you give consent to potentially being filmed or interviewed.

WKF 2020 rules will apply with the following modifications:
The judging of the Kata competition for the competitors will follow the old WKF flag system.
Kata - any approved WKF Kata. Repeats are allowed but only in an A, B, C, A, B, C format. i.e. you must know 3 different kata.
NB: Competitors must announce the name of the kata they will be performing before they start performing the kata. They must also bow inside the competition area before starting and bow after completing the kata. The competitor will be disqualified for failing to do so.
WKF points, warning and penalty systems will be used for all Kumite Events.
For ages 14 and over, the WKF rules will apply.
KUMITE BOUT DURATION for Male and Female
All competitors (Kumite and Kata) must wear a clean white Gi in good condition.
Development or Intermediate divisions: may have personal embroidery on their Gi's, and their belts. Players in Premier divisions: must follow the WKF rules ie. white karate gi without stripes, piping or personal embroidery.
ALL KUMITE COMPETITORS MUST WEAR Mouthguards, Chest protectors, Red and Blue belts and Red and blue hand mitts (matching the belt they are competing in). Red and blue foot protectors which must match the belt colour.
All Equipment must be KNZ, Oceania or WKF approved
Kumite competitors may wear their own groin protectors (WKF type)
Female Kumite 11-year-olds & above – advised to wear approved chest protectors (breast protector) underneath the body protector
Head protection – it is suggested (not compulsory) that you wear the WKF face mask or other padded protection deemed acceptable by the tournament director.
Kata: – As above, at least three WKF Kata must be known.
Kumite: – All Kumite divisions will be split into weight divisions so please make sure your weight is correctly entered on Sportdata otherwise you may be disqualified from competing.
Kumite and Flagged Kata events:
CONDITIONS OF ENTRY:
All entries must be completed online with Sportdata no later than Saturday 19th September 2020 by one person from each club/ association.
The Entry Fee must be paid either online or by internet banking no later than Saturday 26th September 2020.
NO LATE ENTRIES OR CHANGES TO ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER Saturday 19th September 2020. This will enable to tournament organisers to plan more effectively and publish the timetable earlier. If there are insufficient entries in a particular division then divisions may be combined or not held.
A full refund of Entry Fee paid can only be given if a competitor withdraws before 26th September 2020 as the draws will be finalised the next day. Refunds after this date will only be provided if a Medical Certificate is forwarded to the Tournament Director. If your event has been cancelled due to lack of numbers and you have not been reallocated to another event then you will be entitled to a refund for that portion of your entry fee.
PLEASE NOTE: It is the player’s responsibility to listen for events being called and to report to the Marshall on time. Failure to do so will result in disqualification.
