NEW ZEALAND CUP 2020
We have the honour of inviting you to the New Zealand Cup for 2020. This competition is New Zealand’s Premier Karate Event and will be held in Auckland this year. Participation in the New Zealand is open to all KNZ registered players who belong to clubs/ associations who are registered and financial members of Karate New Zealand (KNZ). We look forward to seeing you there!
The 2020 New Zealand Cup is for competitors aged 6 – 9 years, inclusive, and intermediate divisions for 10 years and older.
Dates: Saturday 31st October & Sunday 1st November 2020
Venue: Auckland Netball Centre
7 Allison Ferguson Drive, Stonefields, Auckland
There is plenty of onsite car parking available and an onsite cafe.
Please Note: This event will only go ahead if New Zealand is at a safe Alert Level.

All entries and payments must be completed by a delegate from each club. When paying entry fees by internet banking please ensure that you note that the payment is for NZ Cup. We will endeavour to combine entry fees for all three National competitions so this is paid as one club payment.

PLEASE NOTE: Athletes and spectators may be filmed for SKY TV live web streaming and may be used on a highlights package (with options for international viewing as well). So anyone attending the venue on Saturday may be filmed. By attending you give consent to potentially being filmed or interviewed.

WKF 2020 rules will apply with the following modifications:
Development – The only development divisions for this tournament are for the 6-7 and 8-9-Year-Olds
Development Kata - are limited to performing only Kihon Kata: Heian 1-5, Pinan 1-5, Gekisai 1-2 and Saifa. Competitors can repeat a kata in each round.
Intermediate Kata – any approved WKF kata. Repeats are allowed but only in an A, B, C, A, B, C format, I.e. you must know three (3) different kata.
Competitors will go two at the same time, on the mat, except for the gold and silver medal round.
Development (6 - 7 and 8 - 9-Year-Olds) – The only development divisions for this tournament are for the 6/7 & 8/9-year-olds. Kihon Kata only, repeats allowed.
Intermediate – More experienced in tournaments but not at the premier level yet, you cannot be selected for NZ Teams if you compete in this division. In the Kata competition, there is a free choice for kata performed in all rounds but can only repeat in an A, B, C, A, B, C format. (i.e. you need to know three Kata). You can only be in this division for a maximum of 2 years.
6 – 9 years Only one kata required, (can repeat) NO Bunkai required for medal rounds.
NB: Competitors must announce the name of the kata they will be performing before they start performing the kata. They must also bow inside the competition area before starting and bow after completing the kata. The competitor will be disqualified for failing to do so.
For ages 13 and under, techniques to the head can score but absolutely NO contact to head will be allowed. Any contact (unless by self-endangerment—Mubobi) including skin touch will be penalised.
WKF points, warning and penalty systems will be used for all Kumite Events.
All Kumite divisions will be split into weight divisions so please make sure your weight is correctly entered on Sportdata otherwise you may be disqualified from competing.
Note - A competitor can only enter in one division, but the division can be different for Kata and Kumite.
Separate male and female club-based teams aged 6 years to 9 years old. Teams must consist of one player aged 6 - 7 years old, the second player aged 7 - 8 years old, and the third player aged 8 - 9 years old.
KUMITE BOUT DURATION for Male and Female
All competitors (Kumite and Kata) must wear a clean white Gi in good condition.
Development or Intermediate divisions: may have personal embroidery on their Gi's, and their belts. Players in Premier divisions: must follow the WKF rules ie. white karate gi without stripes, piping or personal embroidery.
ALL KUMITE COMPETITORS MUST WEAR Mouthguards, Chest protectors, Red and Blue belts and Red and blue hand mitts (matching the belt they are competing in). Red and blue foot protectors which must match the belt colour.
All Equipment must be KNZ, Oceania or WKF approved
Kumite competitors may wear their own groin protectors (WKF type)
Female Kumite 11-year-olds & above – are advised to wear approved chest protectors (breast protector) underneath their body protector
Head protection – it is suggested (not compulsory) that you wear the WKF face mask or other padded protection deemed acceptable by the tournament director.
Kumite and Flagged Kata events:
CONDITIONS OF ENTRY:
All entries must be completed online with Sportdata no later than Saturday 19th September 2020.
The Entry Fee must be paid either online or by internet banking no later than Saturday 26th September 2020.
NO LATE ENTRIES OR CHANGES TO ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER Saturday 19th September 2020. This will enable to tournament organisers to plan more effectively and publish the timetable earlier. If there are insufficient entries in a particular division then divisions may be combined or not held.
A full refund of Entry Fee paid can only be given if a competitor withdraws before 26th September 2020 as the draws will be finalised the next day. Refunds after this date will only be provided if a Medical Certificate is forwarded to the Tournament Director. If your event has been cancelled due to lack of numbers and you have not been reallocated to another event then you will be entitled to a refund for that portion of your entry fee.
PLEASE NOTE: It is the player’s responsibility to listen for events being called and to report to the Marshall on time. Failure to do so will result in disqualification.
