Clubs/team managers please ensure ALL entries are paid for through your club/organisation.

In order to ensure to the smooth and timely running of this tournament, the Organisers insist that all club register COACHES, OFFICIALS and REFEREES on SPORTDATA.

 

The CNI-20 Organising Committee reserves the right to withdraw, combine or change Event Categories if and when required up to 48 hours prior to the Competition Opening.

We want Clubs/ Associations to enter their competitors, not the players nor their parents.

Late entries, incorrect entries or entries without payment will not be accepted.

 

FEES: (unlimited individual events)

Individual Events    Under 14 Years $50.00;       14 Years & Older $60.00

Team Events         $45.00

  1. Participation in this tournament is open to all clubs/ associations.
  2. WKF Rules will be applied in the Tournament.   
  3. All entries are final. Ensure all entry forms are completed correctly as incorrect age or weight information may result in disqualification from the tournament.
  4. Coaches/Clubs please ensure your player information is up to date in the Sportdata system, athletes get older and heavier/lighter and change grades. (The Sportdata system will only adjust age – not weight or grade).
  5. All Coaches MUST be registered on Sportdata, no unauthorised persons will be allowed on the tatami at any time.

 

***DIVISIONS****

Development – Along the lines of 1st or 2nd competition, must be a Kyu grade only, must do development kata, Competitors can only be in this division a maximum of two years. This is also for all competitors aged 9 years and under. Compulsory Kata only, and can repeat.

Intermediate – More experienced in tournaments but not at the premier level yet. Kata free choice in all rounds but cannot repeat consecutively (eg A, B, A, B, A, B). Competitors need to know three (3) kata. Competitors can only be in this division a maximum of two years.

Premier – Have competed before, 2nd Kyu and above. Those attempting selection in National teams must be in Premier divisions. Kata free choice in all rounds, no repeats. WKF rules apply. 

Note - A competitor can only enter in one division in each discipline. The division can be different for Kata and Kumite.

 

EQUIPMENT:

The following dress and safety equipment code will apply:

  • All competitors must wear a clean white Gi in good condition as per Art. 2 of WKF Rules
  • All Kumite competitors must wear mouthguards
  • All Kumite competitors must wear approved hand mitts and shin/ instep protectors
  • Compulsory to wear KNZ approved body protector
  • Headgear is optional but recommended for younger competitors
  • Boys/Men advised to wear approved groin protectors

 

The below conditions also apply for age group

13 Year Olds & below

  • Advised to wear KNZ Approved face protector
  • Compulsory to wear WKF Child Chest Protector, to be worn outside the Gi

 

Females 11 - 13-Year-Olds

  • Advised to wear women’s chest protector (breast protector)
  • Compulsory to wear KNZ approved body protector

 

14 Year Olds & above

  • Compulsory to wear KNZ approved body protector, to be worn under the Gi.

 

Female 14 Year Olds & above

  • Compulsory to wear KNZ approved body protector
  • Advised to wear approved chest protectors (breast protector) underneath the body protector

 

COMPETITION RULES:

As per current WKF Rules with the following modifications.

 

KATA:

KATA TO BE JUDGED AS FOLLOWS:

The judging of all Kata competition will follow the FLAG system, either 3 or 5 judges. 

Compulsory Kata list: Heian, Pinan, Gekusai, Saifa, or any other Kihon Kata. 

In the 9 Year Old and under division, competitors are required to perform “Compulsory Kata” (as listed above).

 

KUMITE:

KUMITE RULES TO APPLY TO ALL KARATE NEW ZEALAND (UNZKO) SANCTIONED TOURNAMENTS: 

On scoring/contact: 

  • 9-Year-Olds and under – Techniques to the head can score but absolutely NO contact will be allowed. Any contact at all, (unless by Mubobi) including skin touch, will be penalised. The first player to 8 points or the player with the most points at the time up will be deemed the winner. 
  • 10 - 13-Year-Olds - Techniques to the head can score but absolutely NO contact will be allowed. Any contact at all, (unless by Mubobi) including skin touch, will be penalised. 
  • Cadets (14/15), Juniors (16/17), U’21 (18-20) and Seniors (18+) – all as per WKF rulebook. 

 

Bout Duration: 

  • 6 -  9 years Bout duration 1.5 minutes 
  • 10 - 13 years Bout duration 2 minutes 
  • 14 - 17 years Bout duration 2 minutes 
  • 18+ years Bout duration 3 minutes

 

Repechage: 

Divisions with three competitors will be run round robin with the placing’s decided on the number of wins achieved. If each competitor has one win each then placing’s will be decided on total points scored. 

Divisions with four competitors will have a match between the two competitors who have not won a match to decide on one-third place. 

Divisions with four to eight competitors will have one-third place decided using the repechage system 

Divisions with nine or more competitors will use repechage to decide the third-equal placing’s. 

For Karate, repechage involves the competitors who were beaten by a finalist playing-off to decide the 3rd / 3rd equal placing/s. This means that all medal winners, except possibly for third-place in a round-robin division, will have won at least one match. 

 

COACHES:

As per WKF rules, follow the code of behaviour and the dress code, Club tracksuit or Suit.  Only one coach can be on the mat at a time, only officially registered coaches on the mat and in the warm-up area at any time.

 

REFEREES:

Referees and Judges are REQUIRED to be registered through SPORTDATA.

Referee Dress Code: Black Shoes, Grey Trousers (WKF standard), White Shirt and KNZ Tie
Judges Dress Code: As per Referee but black KNZ polo (If available).
